Perched on the hills above Deshaies, the Deshaies Botanical Garden It is one of the most visited sites in Guadeloupe. Developed beginning in the 1980s on former farmland, it now features several hectares of tropical plant collections spread across rolling terrain that offers, in some places, unobstructed views of the bay and the Caribbean Sea.
The trail winds through groves of heliconias, exotic ginger plants, and palm trees from all over the world, dotted with ponds where koi carp and giant water lilies thrive. An aviary is home to brightly colored parrots and macaws, while a snack bar offers a chance to take a break in the shade during your visit.
The garden is also a favorite spot for birdwatchers: several species of tropical birds, including hummingbirds, live there in semi-captivity and can easily be observed along the paths.
Plan on spending one to two hours on the tour, depending on your pace. This outing is perfect for a family outing or a quiet break, just a few minutes from the the town of Deshaies and its beaches.
